Fish Fish
Louise de Villiers
I would like to describe myself as a young aspiring designer who is dedicated to what I love. I am driven by my passion for living forms and have a keen observation for detail. Colour is also something that I would not be able to live without. It is a simple element that, when used in the right manner, can draw emotion and feeling from what may seem to be a lifeless object.
The cruets are cast in pewter. They are ergonomically shaped and have a functional elegance. The fact that the two pieces are identical sees to it that they fit together perfectly which creates a complete and desirable item. The design was inspired by fly fishing. The graceful lines traced from this sport are clearly reflected in the cruets’ shape and composition.
Albie Spangenberg
After working in the United States as a carpenter and cabinet maker, Albie Spangenberg returned to South Africa to study industrial design at Cape Technikon. His design, "FishFish" is based on the sport of fly-fishing and evokes the silvery, slippery finish of fish beautifully. The two fish parts nestle in a curvaceous symmetry, evoking the reflective surface of these aquatic dwellers. "The design also suggests ideas of yin and yang and the mathematical symbol for infinity," says Spangenberg, who is determined to succeed in his chosen profession as product designer, "no matter how long it takes."
